Editor’s Note: Portable classrooms have their share of critics and raison d’etre. An Inewsource investigation published here under special agreement gets to the bottom of the portable classroom question. Escondido Union School District has almost as many portable as permanent classrooms, 419 of the former to 489 of the latter in a district with 19,204 students. I-15 alternative route system runs through it

Cut through the weird bureaucratic officialese and what do you get: Maybe some better ways to navigate around  a 20-mile Interstate 15 stretch from State Route 52, the Ted Williams Freeway, at Carmel Mountain Ranch to State Route 78 at Escondido. That hallowed stretch of highway heck experiences about 305,000 vehicle trips per day, according to officials. It’s called The Integrate Corridor Management project, and…

Say it ain’t so, Congressman Hunter Jr.

Escondido’s Congressman Duncan Hunter, an Alpine resident, won his last election by a 40-point margin in a District that was 44 percent Republican registered and 31 percent Democratic registered voters. No California Republican incumbent congressman ever has lost a race in a GOP-majority district. This time around, he can’t seem to get out of his own way. In recent weeks, Hunter has been involved in numerous…
