Vintage VC movie to be shown Sunday

Motion picture scenes of Valley Center filmed more than 60 years ago will be screened for the first time in six decades on Sunday, April 17, at the annual meeting of the Friends of the Valley Center Library.

The program, to be held in the library’s Community Room, is the first in a series of events celebrating the Centennial of the Library which opened in 1916.

The event, open to the public starting at 2 p.m., will include a brief business meeting after which the film, “Highway to the Stars”, will be shown.  The title refers to the street now known as Valley Center Road, a name that was not officially adopted until the early 1960s.

The film, in color, was shot in 1952 by the first president of the newly-organized Chamber of Commerce.  It is a silent film, but will be accompanied with music performed by Mike Klingbiel at the piano.  Commentary will be provided by Robert Lerner of the Valley Center Historical Society.

Valley Center Library is at 29200 Cole Grade Road. For more information, call (760) 749-1305.
