Free seeds were all the rage last week at the Dos Valles Garden Club Plant Sale and Seed Swap. The Club, as usual, hosted the event at the Martin Gang Ranch, 28933 Cole Grade Road, Valley Center.
“Many satisfied customers braved rain clouds to take advantage of the free seeds and great plant offerings at the Dos Valles Garden Club Plant Sale and Seed Swap last weekend.,” Dos Valles publicity chair Sue Reynolds said. “Janet Dancy organized hundreds of seed packets for the seed giveaway.”
Reynolds added: “DVGC Treasurer Bob Nobel reports it was a very successful sale. Money collected goes to scholarships for local students and community projects.”
Shoppers were encouraged to bring their old or extra seeds to trade for free seeds, but everyone could take free seeds, even without swapping. Free catalogs from nationwide seed suppliers were available.
Local stores donating seeds included El Plantio Nursery, and Hawthorne Country Store in Escondido. National garden suppliers donating seeds included: American Meadows, Horizon Herbs (now called Strictly Medicinal Seeds), High Country Gardens, Richters Herbs and Stokes Seeds.
The usual generous selection of plants of all sizes will be available at the sale, at the usual bargain prices.
