Say hey to Korea Day!

San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum Saturday kicked off its 4th Annual Escondido Roots Series with a nod to Korea on Saturday afternoon. Soon to follow are celebrations of Korea, Mexico, Israel, Puerto Rico, Iran and Scotland.

The free community event blasted away with the with the big drums of from San Diego Korean Pungmui School and Korean United Methodist Church Nanta Team. The Silver Wings traditionally danced while Eldred’s School of Martial Arts demonstrated martial arts.

The two hour showcase attracted kids and parents to the 6,000-square-foot facility with an additional 7,500-square-feet of outdoor space  at 320 North Broadway.

The Nissan Foundation sprung for the six shows reaching around the world with cultural performances, activities, and crafts that help children and adults gain a deeper understanding about different cultures while having some fun along the way, according to museum officials.

Saturdays are fun days to be sure. World Thinking Day 2016, courtesy of the Girl Scouts of San Diego takes over with a cultural show from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. It ranges from free to $6 for adults.

Later in the year, the museum hosts its 2016 Spring Gala featuring the culture and cuisine of Brazil. this is for donors and those wanting to continue the good work of the museum. Tickets are $75 through Feb. 29, $95 through April 29 and $125 at the door.

The Museum’s hands-on educational exhibits focus on science, arts, and world cultures. SDCDM designs and fabricates their own exhibits with new exhibits added each month.

New exhibits at the facility include Water Wise Interactive and Living Water Tables, Children’s Discovery Garden, Kids Global Village, Reading Book Nook, Toddler Tide Pool, Base Camp, Our Town: Careers & Community, and Magnification Station.
