Two-alarm fire guts two condo units, causes $50K in damages on E. Valley Parkway

Four Escondido residents, a dog and two cats were displaced today as a 2-alarm fire ripped through their 2-story condo complex in the 2100 block of E. Valley Parkway, according to Escondido Fire battalion chief Mike Bertrand.

Escondido firefights received the first alarm via 911 shortly after noon, Bertrand said. A roofing contractor doing repair work on the roof did the honors.

“The initial report of the fire came from a roofing contractor who was doing repair work on the roof,” Bertrand said. “The first arriving units found a two story condo complex with fire coming from the roof of the building.

“A second alarm was requested which included units from Valley Center and San Marcos Fire Departments,” Bertrand said.

The fire was established in the attic of one condo unit and extended into a second unit. The fire was controlled within 45 minutes with major damage to the primary unit and minor fire and smoke damage to the second unit, Bertrand said.

No injuries were reported. Damages to the complex were estimated at, $50,000. The California Fire Foundation provided assistance to the displaced people and animals. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
