In addition to discussing The Winner’s Curse, teens can share their opinions and ideas about other books they have enjoyed and propose titles for the next Burritos & Book Club meeting. The selected book will be discussed at the next meeting on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016. Complimentary burritos will be provided and all participants receive a free book or audiobook at the end of the program.

The Winner’s Curse is the first book in a fantasy series about seventeen-year-old Kestrel and a society consumed by slavery and class warfare. Kestrel’s father is a powerful Valorian general and she is beginning to understand and test the limits of being raised in a position of privilege.

Arin enters Kestrel’s life when she purchases him as a slave at a local market in a moment of guilt, not realizing that he is a spy for rebels plotting to overthrow her father’s government. As feelings of trust and love begin to develop between them, an uprising turns Kestrel and Arin’s world upside down. They are torn between loyalty to their people and traditions and a love that can never be realized.
