A lot of restaurants and businesses have come and gone along Grand Avenue, Escondido’s iconic main street. Vinnie and Michelle Griffin have seen them all while starting and growing a vibrant dining and arts hub at the corner of Grand and Kalmia Street.
It all started and continues in earnest for the husband and wife team with Vinz Craft Bar & Restaurant, otherwise known as Vinz Wine Bar, at 201 E. Grand Ave.
“We’re in a constant state of building,” Vinnie Griffin said, referring to branching out with the Vinz the purchase of the classic Continental Deli, Vinz V-Lounge, a beer garden, regular entertainment program, reserved dining room and wine tasting room, among other destination concepts. The Griffins also partner with Playhouse patio upstairs from the deli.
Coming soon to Vinz Wine Bar is the 12th Annual Oktoberfest celebration. A special Oktoberfest menu will be served from 5p.m. to 9 p.m. friday, oct. 16 and noon to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. The special menu features German oyster shooters, pretzel slyder, sausages, sauerbraten, wiener schnitzel bratwurst, awesome deserts and more.
Also happening during the celebration of all things German, and especially beer and food, is an appearance of the El Cajon German Band from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16. The band promises the chicken dance, shurkle, polkas and waltzes, A German prize drawing will be held. The bar features the likes of Spaten Oktoberfest Paulaner Pilsner, Shipyard Pumpkin Ale and Paulaner Oktoberfest Bottle.
